Introduction: My Journey Testing Two Boozy Spice Perfumes

If you’re as obsessed with perfume samples as I am, you know the thrill of testing something new. Sometimes you discover a hidden treasure; other times, you realize that a full bottle just isn’t worth it. Today, I’m sharing my honest thoughts on two tobacco-inspired fragrances that people often compare: Amber Oud Tobacco Edition by Al Haramain and Royal Bourbon Plume Impression. Both bring a warm, spicy, boozy twist to classic tobacco scents, but they couldn’t be more different in terms of performance and value. So, which one is the real winner for everyday fragrance lovers?

Amber Oud Tobacco Edition by Al Haramain: Spiced Warmth That Lasts

Let’s start with Amber Oud Tobacco Edition. Released in 2019, this fragrance quickly became a favorite among fans of tobacco scents and spicy orientals. Right from the first spray, it’s clear this perfume was made for chilly nights and festive occasions.

Scent Profile: Tobacco Wrapped in Spices and Woods

Amber Oud Tobacco Edition opens with a rush of cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, and—surprisingly—tobacco leaf right at the top. The spicy notes are upfront and lively, almost like walking into a bustling spice market in Morocco or Istanbul. Despite the punchy opening, it’s never harsh or abrasive.

As the fragrance evolves, the heart becomes warmer and sweeter. Here you’ll notice vanilla, clove, and tonka bean swirling with subtle hints of cocoa and incense. The drydown is especially beautiful: the tobacco leaf comes back, blending perfectly with dried fruit and wood for a cozy, almost festive finish.

The scent manages to be both rich and smooth. While I’m usually not the biggest vanilla fan, here it acts like a creamy, sweet thread tying everything together with the woods and fruit.

Longevity & Projection: Built for Cold Nights

One of the best things about this scent is how long it lasts. On my skin, it easily pushes past 10 hours, making it one of the most reliable spicy fragrances I’ve tried. The opening is strong and projects well, then mellows into a woody, sweet cloud as it dries down. This is the perfume you want for winter parties, holidays, or any day when you want your scent to last from morning until bedtime.

Price & Value: Affordable and Impressive

For around £44 a bottle, the value here is almost unbeatable. You get top-notch performance, a rich, cozy scent, and a unisex profile anyone can wear. Honestly, I’d give it an 8.5 or 9 out of 10. If you’re curious, definitely try a sample first (as always—fragrance is so personal!). But for a full bottle, you’re getting a lot for your money.

When to Wear

This is a scent made for the colder months—think fall, winter, and those first chilly spring nights. The warmth of the spices, tobacco, and woods is comforting and perfect for evenings by the fire, holiday gatherings, or even a night out in the city.

Royal Bourbon Plume Impression: Boozy & Beautiful, But Short-Lived

Next up is Royal Bourbon Plume Impression. I was really excited to try this after hearing about its boozy, spicy, and unique scent. But, as with many niche fragrances, the real test is how it wears and lasts on your skin.

Scent Profile: Rum, Spice, and Sweet Tobacco

From the very first spray, Royal Bourbon Plume Impression hits you with cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, and a very prominent rum note. This opening is bold and attention-grabbing, with that boozy kick making it stand out from most other tobacco perfumes.

Royal Bourbon Plume Impression

As it settles, you’ll notice a blend of tobacco, caramel, and more rum. The heart is deep, rich, and sweet—like sipping a spiced cocktail by a roaring fireplace. The base adds vanilla, amber, and cedar for extra warmth.

The overall impression is a spicy, sweet, and slightly boozy tobacco scent. It smells expensive, cozy, and festive—perfect for winter, special occasions, or whenever you want something that feels unique and luxurious.

Longevity & Projection: Where It Misses the Mark

As much as I love the scent, the performance is a letdown. On my skin, Royal Bourbon Plume Impression lasted only about 2 hours before fading away completely. For a perfume that costs around £195 for 50ml, that’s just not good enough—especially when there are so many longer-lasting options at a fraction of the price.

The opening and heart are gorgeous, but unless you plan to reapply every couple of hours (and spend a lot on decants), this one’s just not practical for daily wear.

Price & Value: Too Expensive for What You Get

There’s no denying the scent is beautiful—if only it stuck around longer! At this price point, you expect luxury in both smell and longevity. For me, the poor performance makes this a pass for a full bottle, even though I’ll treasure my sample for special sniffing sessions.

When to Wear

This is another scent made for cold weather and festive nights. It leans slightly masculine but is technically unisex, so anyone can enjoy it. The rum, tobacco, and caramel are perfect for Christmas parties or elegant evenings out—but only if you don’t mind reapplying!

Head-to-Head: Which Is Worth It?

Both fragrances have their strengths, but in the end, Amber Oud Tobacco Edition by Al Haramain wins for me—hands down. Here’s why:

  • Performance: Amber Oud Tobacco Edition lasts over 10 hours; Royal Bourbon Plume Impression disappears in 2.

  • Value: The Al Haramain is far more affordable and punches way above its price in terms of quality and longevity.

  • Scent: Both are beautiful, spicy, and warm. Royal Bourbon Plume Impression is more boozy and caramel-rich, while Amber Oud Tobacco Edition leans into smooth, spiced tobacco and woods.

  • Unisex Appeal: Both work for everyone, but Royal Bourbon Plume Impression leans just a bit more masculine.

  • Price: £44 vs. £195—the math speaks for itself.

Final Thoughts

If you want a warm, spicy, tobacco-heavy scent that’ll get you through winter and holiday nights, Amber Oud Tobacco Edition is a true gem. It’s unisex, lasts forever, and won’t break the bank. Royal Bourbon Plume Impression is gorgeous for that boozy, sweet-tobacco vibe—but for the price and poor longevity, it’s better as a sample or special treat.

Remember: every nose is different! Always try a sample first, because what disappears on my skin might last hours on yours. Happy hunting, and let me know which spicy tobacco perfume is your favorite!
